Friendship Shopping Plaza Updates
« on: October 05, 2013, 11:44:16 AM »
With major changes going on in this shopping plaza, I figured I would just create one thread that we can update instead of going back and forth with the Kmart or Pathmark threads.

When I went past last night I noticed the Burger King is closed and has major construction going on.  If they are changing this to a Wendy's, it doesn't look like it will take too long.

Pathmark, haven't been in there in awhile, maybe someone could update if they know the pricing and selection.

Kmart, was there last week and pricing was still average with 30-50% off.

Not much left in either store.

Proposed Hobby Lobby, who has been in the news a lot lately for not carrying Jewish Supplies has put to rest the accussation that they are against Jewish People and will start carrying Hanukkah in the New York and New Jersey stores.  Here's the article if you haven't heard about it.  http://www.app.com/article/20131004/NJNEWS/310040091/Hobby-Lobby-stock-Hanukkah-items

Should be interesting watching the transformation in this plaza.

Yesterday I took a ride with my pop to Trader Joe's in Eatontown. I'm not sure I could do my weekly grocery shopping there but I would hit it a few times a month for specialty stuff. Never been to Whole Foods. I think a trader Joe's would do good in this area. Watch them build one by one of the nightmare intersections in Brick.

I've never been but my Dad went and walked out with an empty cart.  Is it like Wegmans?  (I've only been there once.)

I was so hopeful that the BJ's would come here.  I think a Wholesale Club would do well in this area.  All the rest are a good 20 minutes away.  Not sure if we have an area that's good for it though.  I could care less if they have a gas station combined with it and that seemed to be the issue with the BJ's.  The one in Oakhurst doesn't have a gas station and as far as I know they are doing well.

It's all Trader Joe's and specialty brands on a smaller scale than a grocery store but the stuff is very good and the prices are not really bad.

I need to get a life and get to a Trader Joe's - heard so much about it.  Like you said John - it's not a place to do the weekly shopping but for speciality items or different iteas its great.

The funny thing about Wegman's is that before switching my last dog to Alpo we used Pedigree and the cans of Pedigree dog food were 25 cents then all other grocery stores and pet supply stores.  I would go into Wegmans once a month and walk out with 30 cans of dog food - never bought much else.

ok...so I was in Petsmart yesterday talking to one of the associates and she said there is once again a change in the locations of the stores.

She said PetSmart is absolutely not moving.  The current location is only 4 years old and the company invested a lot of money in the design inside and out.  TShe said that Hobby Lobby was in the Pathmark store the beginning of last week taking pictures and they will now be moving in that location.

She also said there were other problems happening with Shoprite and the deal is up in the air.

So it seems we are back to square one.  Hobby Lobby, and Wendy's and not sure what will go in Kmart or the old Childrens Store by Staples.  I'm still hoping for Shoprite though.

Anyone else here any updates?  It was really like a ghost town in that plaza yesterday.  Definately wasn't a problem finding parking.

I was wondering why Petsmart would close and move an almost brand new store.

I asked people at the Shop Rite in Jackson and Freehold and no one heard anything about Howell even close to being confirmed.

I would kill to have a Trader Joes here.   I practically live in the one where I work in Staten isalnd.  Closest one around here is Shrewsbury.
But for some reason I dont think a TJ would do well in this area.

Pathmark seems way to small to put a Hobby Lobby there. I would think K-mart would be a little better suited ( even that might be small..)

Something tells me a Trader Joes would do great - we really don't have any specialty stores in the area - especially if they allow liquor sales.  Even if you want a good  butcher shop you have to go into Freehold.

Now I am really feeling like I need to get a life - is Hobby Lobby really that big that Pathmark would be too small - guess it's time to take a ride to Marlboro.

The Hobby Lobby in Marlboro used to be a Pathmark!!  So if the Howell Pathmark size is similar, I'd think they'd be just fine in that space.

Have there been any new updates since October about this plaza?

There are 2 Shop Rite companies Saker(Freehold and Wall) and Wakefern (Jackson). People at Saker were told there will be a new store in Howell. It will have a state of the art bakery and prepared foods section.

Can anyone confirm what the stores will be now? Also does anyone know when Wendy's will be open?

Wendy's should be open around December 20th for the public - December 15 for employees (my sister-in-law just got hired.)

Shop Rite (Saker) is still definitely coming to Howell.

The one in Lakewood is scary and the one in Jackson is rather far.  It will be nice to shop in town again.
